In partnership with The Kids Research Institute Australia and their SEW-Art research program
Inspired by Dog Years Group Exhibition (June 6-July 4, Ellenbrook Arts Gallery).

Join us for a paws-itively fun series of dog-themed creative workshops for young people, designed to support emotional wellbeing and self-expression through art.

Led by local creative counsellor and art therapist Amanda, these eco-friendly workshops are part of the Creativity and Wellbeing for Young People project. Each session combines fun, creativity, and connection to the natural world—while celebrating our furry friends.

Location: Ellenbrook Central

Tues 3rd – Puppy Pots
Decorate your own puppy-faced planter pot to take home

Tues 10th – Scribble Dogs in Frames
Create an amazing dog artwork from a simple scribble – and frame it!

Tues 17th – Dog Collage & Slinky Dogs
Craft a doggie collage card, picture, or make your very own slinky dog!

Fri 20th – Fabric Dog Portraits
Use colourful fabric scraps to make a textured, shaggy dog portrait – an eco-friendly masterpiece!

Tues 24th – Dog Story Books
Write and paint your very own watercolour storybook about your dog and its adventures

Fri 27th – Dogigami & Colouring
A relaxing, open afternoon of dog origami, colouring sheets, and pawprint keepsakes.

Facilitated by: EFOTA and Ellenbrook Art Therapy

All artworks created will be part of the Youth Exhibition (October 3-12), culminating in a collaborative Dogs of Ellenbrook sculpture, celebrating the dogs in our neighbourhood.

A group of local creators specialising in various artistic disciplines exhibit a body of work created to pay homage to our closest animal friend, the dog.

Dog Years brings audiences an escapade into heartfelt fun, an antidote to the crazed world, a place of simple peace and rejuvenation and reflections on the depth of an ancient pact of loyalty that has existed between ourselves and our dogs across aeons.

Electronic Sound Ensemble

Join the Electronic Sound Ensemble at the Ellenbrook Youth Centre.

Over six sessions, participants will delve into the world of experimental music through examples and hands-on activities. We will learn techniques for recording, manipulating, and composing with sound. Working in collaboration, the group will develop original music using a mix of field recordings, musical instruments, and digital synthesizers.

The Electronic Sound Ensemble aims to cultivate connection and curiosity through music-making. The sessions are facilitated by Eduardo Cossio, one of the most accomplished experimental musicians in Perth.

The sessions are aimed at ages 16 to 25. No experience required.
All equipment is provided but participants are welcome to bring their own laptops and/or recording gear.

Corset & Creativity: Fashion Workshop

This 6-week workshop invites participants to discover the art of hand-sewing while inspiring creativity, self-expression, and patience. Through hands-on activities, participants will explore the historical evolution of the corset, create their own inspiration boards, and craft a simple, personalized corset. The workshop concludes with a showcase of completed corsets and inspiration boards during the Youth Exhibition (29 September–12 October 2025).

Why a Corset?

From its origins in the 16th century to its resurgence with cultural icons like Madonna and Troy Sivan, the corset represents more than fashion. It reflects the social norms, gender perceptions, and cultural attitudes of its time. Historically a symbol of restriction, the corset has transformed into a statement of empowerment and inclusivity.

For centuries, the corset shaped not just bodies but societal expectations, serving as a lens to examine gender, socio-economic status, and behavior patterns. By 1920, the traditional corset faded, replaced by softer, more flexible designs. Today, it has re-emerged as a versatile fashion statement embraced by all genders—whether Madonna’s iconic cone-shaped corset or modern renditions worn by men like Troy Sivan, challenging conventions.

This workshop celebrates the corset's evolution as a liberating fashion item that transcends boundaries, offering participants the opportunity to design their own, free from constraints, as an expression of individuality and creativity.
